RCF1

Cap D’Origine just did an interview on Parisian writer RCF1 and Allcity has seized the moment to publish quite a few of his productions.  If you are aren’t able to read the interview because you don’t speak French, we have a few pics and some interesting excerpts here for you…

I learned to paint with the original caps, rough… with those you had to make sure you made quick and precise movements in order to control those tough industrial spray cans. From my point of view, all the aesthetics and dynamics of aerosol art derive from this. I don’t like when it looks all vectorized.  The original and Fatcaps throw spray-paint in its most particular class.

‘Nowadays I can observe graffiti right here in these streets; I don’t go looking all over the place or in magazines and on the internet in order to see what’s happening in the world. You end up getting a bit overwhelmed… now I look at this way.’

In the 90s Honet, Poch, and Shun went out in search for new letter styles which they starting doing like New Yorkers; very influenced by typography from the 70s and the “garage” style. On canvas I like the square format; it reminds me of an album cover for a vinyl record. I often like to try and make reference to things that I like.  I like to get closer to them.  As I don’t know how to play any instrument, it may very well be that this is some way of compensating.  One of my favorite paintings is one that refers to I Wana Be Adored by the Stone Roses. Nevertheless, the key is to play like a DJ.  Nights full of soul, r&b, indie, pop…

There isn’t anything uglier than a white truck; I paint them to make the area I live in a little happier. It’s a most convenient way to paint because of how it looks and how it gets around the city.  To be able to see your name downtown, in front of monuments, up-town…the trucks make for great surprises.  It’s fun and it’s really one of the best forms of communication for graffiti writers.  I live right next to a marketplace so I quickly learned the tricks to do it regularly.
