OUR HISTORICAL MEMORY

Last week the graffiti community in Barcelona was shaken  by an event fraught with controversy.

In Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelona) the artist Milu was doing a painting with a message sympathetic to the protest movement against the installation of an electricity station and a MAT grid in the city.

The problem in question stems from the fact that the painting of this mural takes place on a  historic wall where  Jonone, Sharp, Skki, Noc, Koa and Jairo had painted 20 years ago and has since become a part of the history of graffiti in our city.

Some people linked to the graffiti scene have expressed opinions.

The disappearance of this unique mural is an irreplaceable historical loss. The decision by the City of Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Milu himself can be challenged, however, we have no alternative but to resign and accept this event as something logical in an ever changing world where graffiti has not yet earned cultural recognition by government institutions.

Let’s enjoy the  mural for the last time and remember that respect cannot be deleted.
