PROZAK & PAULO GOVEA PRESENTS… ‘DIRTY!’

Commissioned by Montana Gallery Barcelona, Prozak and Paulo Govea are presenting their work for the first time in Spain in an exposition called Sucio! (Dirty!).

Opening on Thursday the 12th of April, from 8pm. Exhibition from the 13th of April to the 19th of May 2012.

Prozak is the pseudonym adopted by artist Celso Mazo (São Paulo) in 2001 as a remedy for the social problems and incongruences of daily life.

In his latest series the color comes out like a multidimensional lump of organic material made from kaleidoscopic layers that invade dull areas of the city. This chromatic diversity that characterizes his work shows the saturation of information the this globalized world we live in and the effect that it has on the population.

Paulo Govea (São Paulo) self-educated in photography and multi-media, his job is based on exploring a playful universe where special people can raise questions related with art and life.

His work in Sucio! is a reflection of some of the values that make up capitalist society. He keeps a visual parallel and tells the difference between true dirt and moral filth.

Through a game of pictures, the artist is looking to throw the viewer off a bit and expose the extent of bias taxes from the so-called “financial success culture.”

P.H. ‘PSYCHODELICIOUS’ AT MONTANA CAFE BCN

Belgian writer and artist P.H. arrived in Barcelona and discovered the fountain of inspiration that he was missing in order to develop his art. For four years he was dedicated to complete his education in product design. He wanted to leave his mark in the city streets and develop his artistic evolution into an abstract style in which combines shapes and colors, but keeps a strong bond with graffiti represented by the pervasive black line in every one of his pieces.

On Saturday, March 24th at Montana Café we will be showing of a series of work on canvas done in 2011 to 2012 called “Psycho-delicious”. He revealed his recipe to us:

“The formula for my work can be summarized in four steps”:

1. Wash and cut up a portion of graffiti.

2. Select the best parts, toss them into the blender, grind up for a few seconds.

3. Pour out the contents onto a piece of canvas.

4. Leave it in the fridge for thirty minutes, and poof!... it's all ready to serve!

We encourage you to come by and get a taste of his latest creations, some beer courtesy of Moritz and some other sweet surprises.

Exhibition from the 9th of March to the 7th of April 2012.

Ana Langeheldt, born in Seville and, according to her, an 'inhabitant of planet earth', presents her new work, titled 'Galaxia 17812' in Montana Gallery Barcelona.

LAHE178, as she's known within the world of graffiti and urban art, came into contact with spray can art in 2001 during her Fine Arts studies in Seville.

Along her path, she has won numerous prizes and has participated in various expositions, by herself and as part of collectives, but it is within the world of graffiti that she is really in her element. In addition to doing murals, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and events, both in her home country of Spain and abroad, and she has been mentioned in international publications such as Graffiti Women, Mural Art Vol. 3, and Urban Art Boom.

LAHE178 combines her projects in the public arena with her other two great passions: painting and illustration.

Galaxia 17812 is an exposition of paintings and drawings which reflect the artist's galaxy; 178 represents her name, and 12 represents this dangerous year in which we live. This is a new galaxy, running parallel to those of others, made up of stars and solar systems where real and imaginary creatures live.

A helicopter. Nothing more, nothing less. That's what they wanted to buy; they created a collective through which they could raise funds. The U.A.T. (Uniâo Artística do Trancâo), composed by Adrião Resende, André Santos, Fábio Santos, Flávio Carvalho, Miguel Brum, Nuno Barbedo, Paulo Ferreira, was set up in February, 2011. One after they are having an expo at theMontana Shop & Gallery in Lisbon.

If you think the occasion is a bit strange, imagine how the expo is going to be. For sure, this is an event you cannot miss. Note down: From February 9th till 3rd of March right here.

On the 26th of January in our Barcelona gallery, Aryz will play ‘pass the baton’ with his partner in crime, J.Loca-Eledu (SR). Two experienced artists from Barcelona who developed their style conscientiously between 1995 and 2005, created forms and colors which are easily recognizable on first glance in any corner of the world or on any fanzine page. In the words of Dr. William Bell (Massive Dynamic, New York):

“Beneath the immanent threat of the end of the world, this pair of writers, rescued from the depths, bring us ANIMALOCALYPSIS NOW. An intimate and uninhibited examination, with psychedelic hints, of signs and signals, monsters and icons, which lie in wait for us in this reality, all the time more and more unreal. This is a reality filtered by the feverish mind of these old school players from the Barcelona scene. This is pure Chinatown, or some sort of cross between Funkadelic – Grateful Dead – Black Sabbath… but with graffiti; this is the S.R. Collective in full effect.

They boldly create impossible combinations of a broad range of colors, giving emphasis to the range within the ‘happy life’. A multitude of forms and intense environments converge in this collection of explosive canvases, where the hexagon (as the most repetitive form in nature, which maximizes the space) and the powerful outline (which hits you with force) behave as the guiding principle. Indispensable reference points for understanding the evolution of wall graffiti in Barcelona city, and irrefutable proof of the ending of an era. Amazing…”

‘HAPPY ENDING’ BY HDA CREW AT MONTANA CAFE

HDA is a group of friends brought together by graffiti. "Hartos de Arte" (Sick of Art) was born after the 2000 effect, and today in the era of the 2012 apocalypse they are together to show some of their recent pieces. This will be their first show in Barcelona after many years of activity on the street and in their murals, and who knows if it'll be their last. United for the cause are Ring, Kans, Sperm, Zire, Gnyo, Inos, Seny, Apes, Erakles and Spit; as well as some of their members in Paris, 3615, Turbo, and Povre; and Resto, in Gent, Belgium.

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/34723007[/vimeo]

After scattered beginnings, the bonds between the group members grew with each signature, throw up, piece of graffiti, and special moment with people from different corners of the world, such as Buenos Aires, Paris, Madrid, Sweden, Japan, Brazil, Ireland...

It's all based around the painting; the action on the street, the journeys, the long nights, and the short ones too. HDA is a way of life, and a way to have fun. It's not a question of style, HDA is the style. It's about sharing experiences, murals, colors, crazy characters, throw ups, and drips. It's about a certain ironic take on life, and a choice to swim against the current. It's an excuse to travel the world, and paint it while doing so.

On this occasion, the Hartos are back together for a special event in Montana Café next Saturday the 14th of January from 7.30pm, when they'll present some of their works, photos, videos... with the priceless collaboration of La Pegatinería and Dj Raff on the wheels of steel!

ARYZ. ‘HELLO WORLD’

Aryz (Palo Alto, CA, 1988) is presenting a solo exposition for the first time with a series of oil paintings combined with fabrics and drawings, and the challenge is for him to paint in a reduced size. The exposition 'Hello World' will transform the Montana Gallery space completely into the unmistakeable universe of an artist.

"On canvas, paper, or a wall you thought was too big to conquer, Aryz's creepy palette and wonderful characters seem to breathe just above the surfaces they sit on. The graceful-if-grotesque subjects and environments offer a strangely comforting space while keeping all the guts and teeth in the right place. Aryz is making some powerful work at an important time, and I look forward to watching what he does next."

Aesop Rock (american artist and producer)

* The opening will take place on November 24th starting at 8pm. The exhibition will run from November 25th until January 21st, 2012.
