Earlier this year we proposed the Barcelona veteran, Zeus, to give us his Three Aces. This is what bubbled up to the surface:
It’s really tough for me to select three pieces from my repertoire since they all have something to say, but hey. Among them I chose these ones, and it’s not because they are the best ones. I think that every piece is good within its context although some turn out better than others. They all leave you with something. I felt like showing these ones:
- Zeus silver 2013
This piece is close to my work, in the center of my city and I see it all the time because it’s still there.
I’m a bit lazy considering how much I love to do silvers. You don’t have to worry about doing fills, you just pop on a fat cap and go fast. Silvers connect you directly to the essence of graffiti; you just have to worry about the letters. With this piece I was especially motivated by the setting: two doors, air conditioning ducts, and an electrical installation. You put on a fat cap or astro fat and feel a passion like that of a kid who wants to paint everything. And that’s what i did… had a good time.
- Zeus 2012
We went to an abandoned factory and each person found their spot. All of a sudden I saw an untouched, white aluminum panel. I think it goes without saying what that means to a graffiti writer. My pupils dilated and the clearest expression that comes to my mind is that I literally drooled. A strong, intense emotion did all the work. I have the feeling like I didn’t paint this piece… like it painted itself.
- Zeus yellow 2017
I chose this piece for two specific reasons. One, because it is my most recent one and I like to live in the present. The other reason is because I reunited with my friends on this wall. One of the things graffiti has given me is friends. I want to highlight that point. It had been 11 months since I’d painted or drawn. I met up with them to celebrate New Years Eve and they convinced me to go painting and I had a good time with them. I used a range of yellows for the fills; it’s my favorite color since childhood. I didn’t want to get too complicated because we didn’t have too much time. Simple fill, simple letters and this was the result.
