The renowned urban artist Banksy has returned to the limelight thanks to a controversial intervention completed in just over a week in the town of Dover, United Kingdom.
The image consists of an enormous European flag being modified by a worker who, with a hammer and chisel tries to remove one of the stars, causing the whole ensemble to crack.
In the similar critical direction that characterizes the British artist, this new work metaphorically represents the Brexit’s effect on the rest of the European Union. The artwork was motivated by the French political situation, seeing as though it was completed for the day of the French presidential elections.
As usual, the chosen location wasn’t just a coincidence either. The wall is located at the ferry terminal that connects the UK with Calais (France), serving as a contemplative welcome to the countless immigrants that attempt to enter Great Britain.
