Last week the Nottingham Street Art Festival kicked off; an event that’s held every weekend until July 15th with the support of Montana Shop Nottingham and Surface Gallery.
The artist Snik was the first to paint a wall and its significance is explained below through his own words.
” ‘To build a home’ – 4 layer stencil in Nottingham, UK. People are constantly being displaced and pushed around this world, having their homes destroyed, families split. Constantly moving between place to place. They never have a face, but they are always here and we have a responsibility to help when we can.
A huge thanks to the guys at Montana Nottingham for everything to make this wall come together. We couldn’t feel more blessed to be given this opportunity. Nothing but love, loving life. “
In addition, Kid Acne also participated in the project with a simple intervention doused in his recognizable style.
“I first went to Nottingham in 1992 to photograph pieces by #POPZ100down Browns Subway. For me, the city has always raised the bar in terms of Hip-Hop and Graf. It was wicked being back there today and vibing off the energy of the current artists, writers and emcees who continue to maintain a high standard and push things forward. Big up yourselves!“
