Gold and black is a simple color combination that’s seldom used in the graffiti world. The scope of meanings that this union of color evokes (wealth, divinity/ death, emptiness) makes it susceptible to being used in more artistic circumstances. The work of Leon Ka or Herbert Baglione quickly comes to mind, but apart from artists like them who make use of the symbolic nature of these colors in the conceptual and aesthetic aspects of their work, the truth is that the recurrence of gold and black in pieces is a very rare phenomenon.
The Hungarian writer Cycle wanted to break free of this rarity and has gotten down to experimenting with gold and black, on paper as well as on walls. To describe the idea he’s included a bit of theatricality in this video that we’ve posted below.
