As you might remember, for the presentation of the Transversal Fat Cap we invited a true genious in terms of handstyle: BLOKE TDC. This name is the alter-ego of a famous designer and typographer based in Barcelona. We did not want to miss the opportunity to chat briefly with him about the universe of colors and forms…

“When it comes to graffiti I care much less about everything because it is there that I have to be free of norms and rules.”

-What are the differences between BLOKE and Ausias Perez?
I think that when it comes to graffiti, in general, I care much less about everything because it is there that I have to be free of norms and rules. So many times I use the paint I have or in a much more random way. When I design everything is more thought out and for example the colors are more affected by the need for something instead of the circumstances as in graffiti. The spontaneity basically.

-What are your favorite colors?
The basics: Light Red, Light Yellow, Electric Blue …

“Playing with simplicity is a way of giving more importance to the form.”

-Why?
I think the difficulty lies in simplicity. And playing with simplicity is a way of giving more importance to the form. But on the other hand, it also offers the challenge of creating a perfectly calculated work with a range of limited elements.

-Do you think about the meaning that colors can have?
In the end, the psychology of the current color in all fields and even if you don’t think about it, indirectly a red piece suggests something different than a pastel piece. Each thing takes you to a kind of imaginary place and idea.

-Have you thought about how someone colorblind can perceive your work?
I would say no, since using such basic colors does not usually pose a big problem for colorblind people. Perhaps in the design there is adjustment in the color changes that can be altered more by this form of perception.

-Do you value the colors others use as much as you do in your own work??
No. I think everyone has their own research or fun in their process. Each writer enjoys graffiti in a different way, there are individuals who use colors unconsciously and it seems fine, but there are also writers whose color combinations are calculated to the millimeter and it seems equally great.
