We live a constant trickle of urban art events, and it’s nice to see that there are still graffiti spaces. Back To the Style has been a beacon for lovers of hip-hop culture for 12 years, and once again it sends us a strong message from Naples.
Year after year, this festival continues to bring us the essence of the best classic wildstyle, in terms of graffiti. But in general, it is an oasis of hip-hop culture, where you can appreciate and enjoy incredible musical sessions and the tricks and acrobatics on linoleum that the world of b-boying has to offer.
Zurdo Caribe, Jean Moner, Stain, Kem5, Grabster, Urocki, are just some of the guests at this edition, to which we must add a list of big names from the Italian scene. As always, a good dose of style spread over two practice walls and the official wall of the festival. Add to that dj’s, b-girls and b-boys, and we have a recipe for success.
“What I liked the most was the welcome from the local writers, the organization (the guys who organize it are always very attentive), is a powerful line up of international writers, and the food, haha, but that’s a plus because it’s Naples.” (Senk CMS)
“The organization, Zeus and company, treats you wonderfully. They get you set up, take you around or provide you with different walls around the area for you to paint as much as you want. Bagnoli is a hall of fame that surprises you with all the pieces they have from writers from all over the world. You can see tags, throws and pieces in every format. It’s been a perfect excuse to meet people that you wouldn’t meet if it weren’t for these types of events.” (Stain UDK)
So, with so many pieces and so much style we have decided to select, in our opinion, the best 10 pieces of the festival. And believe us, it was not easy.
10. Stain
Since his style is from another planet, the only thing we can do is reverse science and recognize that we like it, although we fear the invasion.
9. Rise
Competent letters, wise color choices, details that make you look, and cleanliness. What more do you want?
8. Kem5
This writer never disappoints. His worst piece makes many writers cry.
7. Zeus
Always with an elegant wildstyle, sleek lines and a soothing choice of colors.
6. Dales
Perhaps one of the hallmarks of wildstyle is the power of the movements of the letters. Dales has struck a balance between beauty and intensity with risky letter structures.
5. Tony Tres
The importance of the letters, no ambiguity, no decoration. Just style.
4. Senk
We like this piece very much for its colors and shapes. The typical classic language, revisited and improved.
3. Opium
This piece is funk. If we stand still we can hear the bass following the rhythm. Try it for yourself.
2. Jean Moner
If the previous piece is funk, what we have here is without a doubt electronic. The piece works as a whole, in which some of its parts seem to falter, but no, they serve a specific purpose.
1. Senk & Urocki
A shared podium. Taken as a whole, these pieces work perfectly. Separately, Urocki coaxes and mesmerizes us. In collaborations of this kind, there is always someone who stands out and leaves the rest limping. In this case that doesn’t happen. Senk and Urocki reach the finish line together.
