From the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, we received the news of a graffiti event which may be a giant step for relations with the city’s government and for finding new legal spaces to paint in the city.
This pedestrian tunnel, which connects the street with the entrance of the Sofia metro network (in the space below Tsarigradsko road and alley Yavorov), has been converted into a new legal graffiti space. The project was commissioned directly from the desk of the mayoress of the city, Yordanka Fandakova, via the Association of Youth Culture “Radar”.
The anecdote of the day was brought about by the mayoress herself, when she took the risk of asking an elderly lady who was passing by what she thought of the idea of decorating such spaces with graffiti, who responded, “I like it. In these colored drawings, I see messages charged with positive energy”. Even Fandakova, a renowned lover of contemporary art, picked up a spray can to add his own input.
Let’s see if cities like Barcelona or Madrid take note of how to better reach out to youths with events such as this, instead of just giving out fines left and right.
Thanks to our MTN Official distributor in Bulgaria, Nick Todorov, for all the info.
