When the stars align there is a huge energy produced by big artists which are some of the best people. OS GEMEOS came with the heat like they always do and chopped it up a bit with us. Here is an excerpt from that conversation during the inauguration for the Aryz exhibition. (Thumbnail pic: Os Gemeos x Blu in the streets of Lisbon, 2010)
What are the seven differences between you guys?
Technically nothing. We work as one solid unit. We think the same and work toward the same direction.
What is this work based on? What is your mode of operation?
Well, we are always working. We study a lot. We are like sponges that soak up everything around us…everything influences us: people, places, art, literature…everything. We draw a lot.
What are your limits?
It feels like we’ve done a lot, but we still have so much more to do; there’s so much to investigate and so many artistic facets such as music and animation.
Like how dance is mixed in with your installation at the Kauno Bienale in Lithuania?
Yes, well, something like that. Although we didn’t organize that, we like the fact that our work inspires other artists, just as other artists inspire us with their work.
What have you gained and lost on your journey?
We have acquired a lot of experiences and friends, done so many things and have travelled to a lot of spots. We have lived and shared so many experiences…and that’s what we love about it.
Sometimes we worry that all this and the way we live separates us from reality and that we lose contact with the real world.

Do you guys do anything to stop that from happening?
The truth is that we try not to think about it so much and we just keep working.
What worries you guys most?
We worry about splitting up and distancing ourselves. That scares us a bit.
In this spiral of experiences, how do you guys keep from losing the essence, freshness, and honesty in your work?
We bring everything we have learned to the table; we play and release through our filter. We remember who we are, and thats how work.

Do you guys still paint for fun?
We do in Sao Paulo, but not as much as we’d like to in other parts of the world.
Please explain the project that you guys did on the trains in Vitoria (Brazil).
Sure. We had the permission from the authorities to “legally” paint the trains with the themes that wanted. Right now it is underway and is working very well.
What corner of the world has left the biggest impression on you guys?
Whoa… they all have their own charm and distinctive features. We loved Lithuania, New York, Sao Paulo….
Future projects?
Re-paint the Montana factory maybe (laughter)!?!? At the beginning of next year (note: 2012), we’ll have an expo in L.A., and a few more things we’ll let you know about soon.
Time seems to slip away around the café. People gather at the entrance and unmistakable signs that the inauguration is about to start creep out of the store. We break the spell and mingle with the folks.
The story continues, but it is not ours. This is Aryz’s moment….
Fade to black
