As you know, one of our collaborators, Abalon, has been spending some time recently in New York and Miami. From the ‘city of bass’, she brings us this photographic report done during her wanderings through the Wynwood district which is, as you know, a mecca for alternative art and the setting for the macro-event ‘Art in the Streets’. And from the city that never sleeps she brings us an article of the Oblvn expo in the Klughaus gallery. And here’s her interview with SKI, member of UR NYC (along with 2ESAE), where he tell us about his relationship with New York and his link to the graffiti scene.

How and when did you met?

Before we met I noticed 2ESAE‘s work around the city with ACC crew and i loved the damage they were doing. I started asking around and a young friend of mine knew him and thats how we got connected. We met at the Home Depot in Flushing Queens at a legal wall I had gotten for us to paint since he was on trial for graffiti and couldn’t paint. Since then, we have been working together creating and selling art on the streets, and today we are the founders of UR New York Inc.

What is your relationship to NYC?

I’m a New Yorker raised in Astoria, Queens. I’ve was fortunate enough to grow up in 90’s cause graffiti was in its ultimate prime. Graff videos, magazines, and new Internet sites were flourishing and the world was being connected through this art.

When & how did you started with graffiti?

I´ve been painting since 92′ and have witnessed the evolution of graffiti/street culture since the early 80’s. In the 90’s I painted lots of subways and freights and then started hitting the streets in 94.

What has been your stile development?

It’s hard for me to talk about my style because I like to look at it as a feeling. So when I write a tag there is a stylized feeling that comes with it. The same with a bubble style, piece, or production. My graffiti will always reflect the 90’s and my Art reflects where i am today.

How would you describe your style?

Our style is pretty hard to define cause its graffiti, it’s street, at times it could be fine art or urban impressionist. It all depends on my mood. You be the judge.

Which artists inspire you?

I´m inspired by everyone who is creative and is trying something different. Everything around you is inspiration, it just depends how your looking at it.

Can you describe your relationship?

My relationship with 2ESAE is a really cool one. We met 6 years ago and started working on a vision we both had without even talking about it. We love graffiti and without it, we would not be where we are, being who we are.
