Ernest Zacharevic
“Rock, paper, scissors!”
Opening Thursday 20th of March 2014 from 8 pm.
Exhibition open from 21st of March until 3rd of May 2014.
Ernest Zacharevic (1986) aka Zach, is a rising lithuanian artist which since some years lives in Southeast Asia. His works has gained international recognition through his interventions of murals made in the historical central parts of various cities in Malaysia, giving him the nickname “The Malay Banksy” in certain parts of the media.
After a education of classical arts in Vilnius (Lithuania) and London, Ernest began to develop his works in direct contact with the public space where he intervenes the architectural landscape in a fusion between paintings and recycled objects. On his travels through places like Rome, Brussels, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore (among many) he has not seized to create admiration from the public through his outstanding mural work.
His work is of a quite simple character, almost childish, and reaches further than most other two-dimensional urban art. Ernest experiments with objects like for example bikes and old motorcycles in his paintings, giving rise to a true interaction with the local audience. His pieces takes on another dimension beyond the painting and the mural in itself and creates reactions which provokes an outbreak of smiling faces.
Rock, paper, scissors! Now to be presented at Montana Gallery Barcelona, is his first individual exhibition in Europe after all his success over in Asia. In this exhibition we will have the opportunity to see portraits and drawings on fabrics and wood, and also a diverse selection of objects which reflects street-life with a fresh atmospherical feeling. His works makes us look at things like back when we where kids and still maintained the impression of that everything was possible.
