LA based KOFIE was recently interviewed by Taller Magazine. It’s always interesting to have access to the thoughts that lie behind the work of an artist. As spectators we’re not just satisfied with the final result; we like to get to know the artists’ sources of inspiration, their motivations, the meaning behind their work, and their work routines, etc… As Kofie himself says, “I enjoy the creative process, it’s the main reason why I make things”.
If you’re not already familiar with Kofie, here’s a brief personal and professional description that we published alongside the release of the limited edition piece we made with him.
Growing up in Los Angeles and being very active in the West LA Graffiti scene since 1993, Kofie, as he became to be known, is a skillful and well respected mixed media and street artist.
Drawing on his previous craft in Graffiti lettering, he has developed an abstracted version of these earlier works that goes beyond the traditional, 3 dimensional world with which we are familiar, into crafted compositions that build upon themselves. He has the innate ability to combine a futurist vision with reminiscent traces from the past, both in his murals and in his studio work. He is a true contributor to the ‘“Graffuturism” movement.
If you’ve found this artist and his work interesting, we encourage you to take advantage of all the other related content published on this blog, above all the most recent entry: his participation in the “All City Canvas” event that took place in Mexico, DF.
