We finally have MTN FILES in our hands; MTN Colors free publication celebrating the brand’s 30th anniversary.
“A new one?” Some may ask. “Wasn’t there already one?” Yes, but this is our way of honoring the disappearance of that publication and commemorating a date that is so important to us.
In life change is everything. If Jordi Rubio hadn’t changed the way things were done, Montana would not exist. If 30 years later we were doing the same as before, water based, new caps, new colors or even other brands would not have come about… We could go on and on like this with a long list of changes that have improved our lives as writers, artists, and professionals.
The same thing occurs when it comes to the free mag. Changes never happen alone because we are interconnected organisms, and to honor the absence of one, we have created another one.
MTN Files is the final touch on 30 years of doing things a certain way. The end of a cycle that perfectly exemplifies the passage from adolescence to adulthood.

What will you find in this new publication?
250 pages with a ton of graffiti, divided into 5 sections, which we believe represent the passage of time, and the growth that these 3 decades have witnessed.
We have selected the most interesting interviews from our MTN WORLD -which by the way is now 15 years old. There are pieces or news that we believe deserve to be read more slowly -and remain in our collection of print-media must-reads- to which we have to round out with new material. And to finish off each section we have articles signed by MTN workers and supporters, first-hand witnesses of all these changes.
What else, what else? Oh yes, you will find a lot of bombing and some historical information about us.

What are the topics?

-Ages

In this section we find interviews with 3 graffiti masters: Jay One, Chob BBS, and Honet.
Albert Guarch, our PR, and the writer Musa71 tackled the unpublished articles of this section that remind us of the importance of history and the passage of time.

-Places

Is there any place that graffiti has not yet reached?
We delve into the published interviews of Tnor and Skore from Colombia; Guldvittring and his wonderful photos of graffiti in the north of Scandinavia; and Suicide and his collection of subway systems.
The unpublished features of the section come from our community manager, Louis Pierre Boivin, where he contextualizes the importance of Montana Colors throughout the history of graffiti, and our marketing manager in Australia, Bernat Escorihuela, who shares some of his experiences with us.

-Society

What can you find in this section? Social politics with Senk CMS. Fashion and sneakers with Alonso Alcaide. Pluto Wca‘s past testimony from prison.
This time the unpublished articles are by Alain Astola (explaining the importance of Montana Shop Barcelona- Born) and Anna Dimitrova, curator of the Montana Gallery Barcelona (talking about art, graffiti and galleries).

-Identities

Ever since the beginning, graffiti came to break barriers, and the echoes of that rupture still reverberate to this day. We picked up and expanded on the contents of the articles on Satr to talk about LGTBIQ+ rights; Puño and standing up for his sexual orientation, and Lucy, who tells us what it is like to be a graffiti writer in Los Angeles.
Olga Fuertes, MTN’s CEO, shares her perspective on the role of women in prominent roles, and Dario Chemello tells us how graffiti breaks down all kinds of barriers.

-Uniqueness

In this section we include articles from graffiti writers who show us how their differences are actually their strength, and how resilience is a powerful engine within this culture.
We have selected Cekios, Maky and Alive to tell their stories and open our eyes.
In articles conceived only for MTN FILES, Kapi -a Montana Colors collaborator since the beginning- and Miriam Ramos -human resources technician- offer their personal vision on this subject.

Many other articles could have been highlighted, as MTN World has published more than 6,000 over these 15 years (surely an understatement) but we believe that these articles construct a rather accurate historical-human map; a summary of what all these years have meant. We hope you enjoy the publication, which you can get at your favourite store starting today.
