Four years ago we did an interview with Days One, a writer from Sydney, an O.G. who started painting at the end of the 80’s and is still active to this day. He has caught our attention again because he has painted a mural at the MTN Australia– Roberlo warehouses and we’d like to highlight this because as Bernat Escorihuela, our advertising director in Australia, says, “It’s not an MTN warehouse if at least one of the walls isn’t painted”. The result is a mural, two videos and a song by Chali 2na from Jurassic Five. Want to come and see it with us?
MTN has grown thanks to our commitment to graffiti writers. We are aware of the need to build lasting relationships and how arduous that task can be. It’s about prioritizing the whole, respecting differences and appreciating what everyone can contribute to move things forward and prosper. We have grown together.
This is the kind of relationship we have with Days One, a respected writer in the Sydney graffiti scene and Australia in general.
“Thanks to Bernat, the whole team at MTN and Roberlo Australia, and my great friend and inspiration Chali 2na. Honestly, I’m pleased and proud of the end result, including the videos, but more importantly, I feel privileged and proud to call you guys great friends and continue working on what already was a great relationship.” -Days One
But back to the subject at hand. The idea of painting the mural had sprouted a year ago, almost from the moment MTN had moved into its new warehouse in the city of Sydney, but due to MTN’s and Days’ schedules they couldn’t take the idea to the wall until now.
“I sent in some designs, and they were very well received. The only thing they asked me was to do something a little more automotive, since MTN shares its offices and distribution space with Roberlo, an automotive paint and refinishing company. They suggested I paint a lowrider, something I had already painted on canvas.”- Days One
The mural was done over the weekend and if you have done work of this sort, you know what it entails: ladders, taping to protect the rest of the furniture, and a lot of patience because the space (as you will see in the video) is higher than it looks, and the surroundings had to be protected. The writer tells us that it took about 14 hours and a lot of MTN 94 to paint.
“Also, I was fortunate that while I was painting, Bernat had set up a time-lapse camera and had two mobile cameras documenting the whole process. Many times when I do work of this scale, I would love to be able to document it, but unfortunately I rarely have the time to do so.”- Days One
The job was completed by Sunday afternoon. They let the office air out overnight and the next morning they applied a coat of MTN clear acrylic varnish.
@mtnaustralia It happened! @days_one_dca blessed our walls👌🏼✨ Here’s a peek at the previous painting process👀 Stay tuned for the full reveal! 🎁 ❤️💙💛 #mtnaustralia #graffiti #spraypaint #mural
And here is the final result with which we are obviously very happy!
