Montana Gallery Barcelona presents: “The Spray Game”, a solo exhibition by the Barcelona artist Camil Escruela.
Coming in contact with graffiti in 2004 and after a compulsive activity in the street and yards, Camil discovers his true artistic vocation in 2011 turning fully into painting.
Currently, his work reaches different fields ranging from digital illustration to the production of his own three-dimensional figures.
Camil’s figurative language aims at experimentation from clear aesthetic references that come from naïve art, art brut, pop-art, comic and illustration. Claiming the personality of a contemporary Barcelona that goes from the Olympic revolution to the explosion of urban art and graffiti, his two main aesthetic influences give meaning to this conceptual framework: Javier Mariscal and Nami, “La Mano”, with whom he also maintains friendship and collaborates occasionally.
Along with the avant-garde flavor of such a spontaneous and fun style, his compositions include themes, codes and symbols of street culture in all its manifestations; be it graffiti, art, music, fashion or technology, proof of Camil’s constant interest in current events and trends.
So, while to satisfy the demand for content from the networks Camil has fun intervening photographs of graffiti in action, the power of his creative energy is focused on the canvases: real windows to a fascinating universe in which the concepts of graffiti visit inhospitable places. A dreamlike work that represents the unconscious obsession of graffiti writers through a touchingly funny look.
In “The Spray Game” Camil will invite us to visit all the dimensions of his multifaceted universe, giving us the possibility, not only to understand and enjoy his work, but also to have fun like children.
