Pablo Allison presents his new book, Detainee Handbook, at El Montana Cafè.
Pablo was in Manchester, UK and grew up in Mexico City. He is interested in exploring ideas such as control, seclusion, displacement, freedom, entrapment, and migration, among others, through his work.
In July 2019, he was arrested and incarcerated in an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detention center in the US, where he spent almost 1 month. During his time in prison, he was able to document the lives of detained migrants through observational sketches made by him, along with texts and interviews of fellow detainees.
The Detainee Handbook aims to offer a small glimpse into the lives of those trapped and locked up in the United States prison/detention system, an industry that has profited greatly from this human tragedy, at the cost of millions of people who they try to find better expectations of life.
