“Don’t pursue poetry, it penetrates through your joints.”
– Robert Bresson
Piero Maturana (1990) is a Chilean painter and muralist who has invested much of his energy in studio work in recent years, developing a constantly evolving personal language. This body of work is the result of a mixture of his internal world, his notes and his fortuitous encounters.
“Interstices” is his first solo exhibition presented at the Montana Gallery Barcelona.
The exhibition invites us to look at that small space that exists between two moments of reality, a crack through which the image opens up to new possibilities. With a pictorial language oriented to the unfinished, to the laws of chance, to the imperfect, the artist pursues a sense of surprise in color, like the astonishment that playing can provoke in a child.
Adopting positions of anonymity, sometimes supporting roles in a film, he portrays people in a state of conscious immobility: characters who affected by events, onlookers who float like a seed caught in two currents of air.
His oeuvre concerns the search for tension between two colors, between two images, a parenthesis through which a different reality can be glimpsed
